Larke Pass

Larke Pass, also known as Larkya La Pass, is one of the most important highlights of the Manaslu Circuit Trek. It lies at a whopping altitude of 5,110 meters or 16,930 feet above sea level. Larke Pass represents the highest point of the trek. You can gain insight into the overwhelming surrounding of mountain ranges, including Himal Chuli, Manaslu, and Cheo Himal.

While ascending higher, the landscape turns into a snow-white wonderland form, surrounded by towering peaks from all sides. Panoramic views from atop Larke Pass will definitely compensate you for the struggle.

Reaching Larke Pass is indeed exhausting. But you will never forget the experience of having to go through this altitude. You have to cross steep trails, icy paths, and rocky terrain to reach here.

The feeling of achievement once you reach the pass is unreal. Larke Pass is not only a challenge but also a highlight that creates an adventurous Manaslu Circuit Trek.

Samagaun Village

Situated in the middle of the Manaslu region, Samagaun Village is a beautiful Himalayan village. The majestic mountains like Mount Manaslu and Himchuli border the village. This scenic village acts as a common stopping point for trekkers on the Manaslu Circuit Trek,  Manaslu Base Camp Trek and Manaslu Tsum Valley Trek.

The village of Samagaun is a perfect acclimatization place since it lies a little lower than Larke La Pass, which is 5,106 meters high. Staying here allows trekkers to acclimate and get their bodies ready for the challenges such as crossing the pass.

You will hike through heavy forests of tall rhododendron trees, the national flower of Nepal. During spring, they bloom wildly into a spree of red, pink, and white colours in the lower reaches of the Manaslu Circuit Trek.

The greenery, along with the chirping of birds and small streams running inside the forest, is a serene environment. The environment is opposite to the rugged, rocky trails of the higher altitudes. Prepare yourself to indulge in Mother Nature, so beautiful that it is completely beyond anyone’s description.

Besides the immense beauty, these lush forests support a wide range of wildlife that includes monkeys, deer, and various species of birds. The higher you get, the faster the vegetation may thin out.

The best time to trek on the Manaslu Circuit is during the spring and autumn seasons because of the weather conditions. With spring comes mild weather, clear skies, and rhododendrons in bloom. In contrast, Autumn brings cool and comfortable weather with a hint of traditional farming activities.

Each season comes with its own unique appeal. Spring brings spectacular lush landscapes and rare flora. On the other hand, autumn will give you the insights of crystal-clear snow capped mountains.

You can choose the season that you like according to your preferences and availability. No matter which season you choose to trek, you won’t be disappointed.

Spring Season

What is the best time for the Manaslu Circuit Trek if it is not spring? The forests acquire their best shades of green. The wildflowers, including rhododendrons cover the landscape in beautiful shades of red and pink.

Spring commences during March when the trails are still quiet, and winter is gradually receding. The temperature ranges between 2°C to 8°C, offering cool and crispy trekking conditions.

The month of April is the best time to take on this trek because of stable weather and clear skies. The entire region glows in its most vibrant colours. At this time, you can witness views of the Manaslu mountain range, with temperatures fluctuating between 4°C to 10°C.

The last month of spring, May, is the last colourful bloom of flowers just before the monsoon starts kicking in. You might experience pre-monsoon showers during the last days of May. The pre-monsoon rain shall not be an obstacle as long as it is not too heavy.

Mild rainfalls give you a chance to view the beauty of the Manaslu region making you feel as though you’re in a different world. Temperatures start rising from 4°C to 25°C during the daytime in May.

Autumn Season

Autumn, from September to November, is another good time to trek in Manaslu Circuit. In this season, you will enjoy the mild temperatures and mighty mountains.

September is the early month of autumn. The temperatures go from 5°C to 7°C at higher altitudes. You can expect some rain at the beginning of the month. We suggest you bring rain gear. The crowds are sparse, and as a result, lodgings are easier to find.

October sees the best conditions. This is the peak trekking month in Nepal because of warm days and excellent visibility. Temperatures range from 0°C or -2°C at higher altitudes during night.

The trails can be super busy during this time of the season. It is wise to contact us and book your accommodations well in advance to avoid any hassle.

November is cooler yet stable weather. The temperature in the daytime in lower areas stays above 12°-13°C. Whereas, villages on higher altitudes such as Samdo and Samagaun reach -3° to -6°.

As a bonus for November trekkers, the annual Manaslu Trail Race happens every year from the first to the third week of the month. This will elevate your experience of the Manaslu Circuit Trek to a whole new level.
